What you need to know.
Ten Years From Now is a free writing competition for students aged 14–18, run by Succeed. Here is what your child will do, what we ask of you, and what happens to their information and their work.
What your child does
They choose one of three questions about the next ten years, research it, and write an argument of up to 1,000 words about what should happen next. They enter online, on their own. It is free, there is no video and no interview, and they can enter once in each of the two rounds.
What we ask of you
If your child is under 18, we need you to confirm that they can take part. When they submit, they give us your name and email address, and we send you a short email with a link. Opening the link lets you confirm or decline. Their entry is judged only after you confirm.
Confirming doesn't create an account for you or sign you up to anything else. If your child becomes a finalist, we will ask you separately before publishing their name, photograph or entry.
What we collect, and why
- Your child
- Name, email, date of birth and country, to check eligibility and contact them about their entry.
- Their school
- The school's name and one member of staff's name and school email, to confirm they are a student and, if they receive recognition (a Distinction or above), to tell the school.
- You
- Your name and email, to confirm their participation, ask for permissions if needed, and tell you their result.
- Their entry
- The title, the entry, references and an AI-use declaration, for judging.
We don't ask for a phone number, home address, photographs or anything about your family's background or finances. The privacy notice explains this in full.
Will they be sent marketing?
No, not unless they choose it. Competition emails (confirmation, reminders and their result) are sent to every entrant. Hearing about other opportunities from Succeed is a separate choice, offered after they submit. It is off unless they tick it, and they can unsubscribe at any time.
What happens to their work
Your child keeps the rights to what they write. Entries are read by judges and checked for originality. If your child becomes a finalist, we ask both of you for permission before publishing their entry, name or photograph. They can say no and still receive their award.
Safety
Entrants never need to meet anyone, attend anything or share contact details with other entrants. Judges see entries, not contact details, and the first round is anonymous. Read our approach to safeguarding.
